Osho on Divine

Divine

Osho eloquently reveals that beneath the myriad discussions of love, meditation, and society lies a singular, nameless Reality; every metaphor serves merely as a doorway to the Divine, urging us to focus on essence over transient forms.

Osho, is attaining the Divine a human being’s victory or defeat?

Every path has its supports, and every path has its dangers. And it often happens that we ignore the supports and fall into the dangers. Of a hundred knowers, ninety-nine get entangled in ego; and of a hundred devotees, ninety-nine fall into laziness and become dull, inert. Be alert. If you choose the path of knowledge, the path of meditation, remember well that ego must not be allowed to fill you—otherwise all is wasted, all your doing undone. Built with one hand, destroyed with the other. It becomes spiritual suicide. On the path of devotion, ego is no danger. The devotee does not think of himself at all. He keeps no sense of “I.” The danger is different: that he may become slothful, inert, fatalistic—saying, “Whatever will be, will be. Nothing happens through our doing; we are as we are; we shall remain as we are. When His grace descends,…

Santo Magan Bhaya Man Mera · Discourse 8Question 7 1978-05-19 Pune Translated from Hindi by Osho Live

Osho, is the Divine hidden in the world, or is the world itself the Divine?

Just look at the hints that come from the world! From every side the signs are there, yet you stand with eyes closed. From everywhere the Divine is sending news in countless forms. This gust of wind—that is his gust. This fragrance of flowers—that is his fragrance. The rainbow that rose in the sky—that is his rainbow, his color. These people sitting beside you, and you who sit within yourself—these are all his sitting rooms. He dwells in every house. But that is the first proclamation: he dwells in every house. Then the second proclamation: he and the house are not two—they are one. Then the third proclamation: only he is—where is the house? It is according to capacity. There is no contradiction among them. First-grade lesson, second-grade lesson, third-grade lesson. And do not go to solve such questions philosophically; you will not solve them and you will get tangled—you…

Mare He Jogi Maro · Discourse 8Question 1 1979-11-18 Pune Translated from Hindi by Osho Live
Question: First question: Osho, why is the divine called ineffable? Everything in life is ineffable. The divine is the totality of life. When every single thing in life is ineffable, then the sum of all will be supremely ineffable. Can you define love? Someone may ask, “What is love?” And it is not that you have not known love. Perhaps the monsoon hasn’t poured, but a drizzle has surely touched you. In some way, by some door, a little taste of love has been felt. You must have known a friend’s love, a husband’s, a wife’s, a son’s, a mother’s, a father’s. From somewhere or other a ray of love must have descended, for without a ray of love no one can live. There has been a recognition, a small window has opened. But if someone asks, “What is love?” you will be struck dumb. What will you say?

Nahin Sanjh Nahin Bhor · Discourse 6Question 3 1977-09-16 Pune Translated from Hindi by Osho Live

Osho, Charandasji says—as perhaps all the wise say—that the Divine is of one taste. There is neither dusk nor dawn there; neither death nor birth; neither pleasure nor pain. Then what is there? What is this one-taste?

Life is dual. Everywhere in life there is duality. If there is love, there is hate. If there is sin, there is virtue. If there is day, there is night. If there is birth, there is death. Everywhere in life there is duality. Life runs on duality; life is dialectical. Here, life cannot be without death; how could there be evening—without morning? How could there be morning—without evening? How would there be success if there were no failure? And if there were no sorrow, how would there be happiness? Here everything is tied to its opposite. Therefore, however happy one tries to be here, one never quite is, because sorrow follows right behind; it comes along with it. Sorrow and happiness are twin brothers. And not merely twins—they are conjoined. They share the same body. Perhaps there are two faces, but the body is one. Here, if you gain fame,…
