What is the spiritual meaning of being one with an attached mind (āsakta-manā)?

To be one with an attached mind is to love the Divine so deeply that all other attachments dissolve, revealing the ocean within each droplet of existence.

According to Osho, āsakta-manā means a mind attached only to God - the All pervading the forms - so completely that every other attachment falls away. It is loving the ocean hidden in each droplet, the impersonal within the person. Such 'attachment' is total nonattachment to wealth, fame, or persons, redirecting desire toward the Divine and making one receptive to Krishna's guidance and union with the Whole.

It means your heart wants only the One inside everything, so you stop clinging to bits and pieces.

Osho, a small question. The original Sanskrit here uses āsakta-manā for “undivided love.” In me, what would be the spiritual meaning of being one with an “attached mind” (āsakta-manā)? Please clarify.

Mystery means, the more you know, the more you dissolve. You know—and you dissolve more. And still more. A day comes when the knowing is complete, but you are not there at all. The claimant is finished. The one who could claim, “I have known; truth is in my fist,” disappears. Neither the fist remains, nor the one who clenched it. What remains is a mystery. Also, even when fully known and intimately familiar, that knowledge is not bound by logic. It is not logical. It is like a mystery—misty. As in the early morning when the sun has not yet risen and fog hangs everywhere—things appear mysterious. Or on a full-moon night: under some trees there is darkness, elsewhere soft moonlight, and everything turns mysterious. A mist surrounds all. Osho, Shri Krishna says that through desirelessness and nonattachment, bondages are destroyed and the supreme state is attained. Please clarify its meaning and explain by what kind of practice or worship this attainment is made possible. For ordinary people, becoming directly desireless and nonattached does not seem possible.

First of all, one must understand the meaning of nonattachment. Nonattachment is among those few unfortunate words whose meaning has not been understood. People take nonattachment to mean dispassion or aversion (virakti). Nonattachment is not virakti. Virakti too is a kind of attachment—it is the name of attachment to the opposite. One person is attached to lust, to desire; another is attached to brahmacharya, the opposite of lust. One person is attached to wealth; another is attached to renouncing wealth. One person is attached to adorning the body; another is attached to making the body ugly. But the one who makes his body ugly will appear to be a renunciate, the one who renounces wealth will appear to be a renunciate, because their attachments are negative. Questioner: krishna says that by giving up desiring and attachment, which he calls niskamta and anasakti respectively, one is released from bondage and he attains to the supreme. But it is so difficult for ordinary men and women to be free of desiring and attachment. Please explain the significance of desirelessness and non-attachment and ways to achieve them.

In the first place try to understand the meaning of the word anasakti or non-attachment. It is unfortunately one of the most misunderstood words. Non-attachment is generally taken to mean aversion, but it is not aversion. Aversion is a kind of attachment -- the opposite of attachment. Someone is attached to sex and someone else is attached to its opposite -- brahmacharya or celibacy. Someone is attached to wealth; he is running after wealth, and someone else is attached to renunciation of wealth; he is running away from wealth. One person is obsessed with the idea of looking handsome; another person is obsessed with the idea of looking ugly. But those who are averse to sex, money or good looks appear to be non-attached because their attachments are negative. Attachment has two faces, positive and negative. Content with whatever comes—beyond the mind’s dualities—such a person, even while acting, does not get caught in the bondage of action. Thus says Krishna—most scientific—to Arjuna. gatasanga-sya muktasya jñānāvasthita-cetasaḥ. yajñāyācarataḥ karma samagraṁ pravilīyate.. 23.. Because for the unattached, the liberated one whose consciousness is established in knowledge, acting for yajña, all actions dissolve entirely. Performing actions unattached, with awareness—such a man’s karmic bondage becomes attenuated; all fetters, all dependencies fall away. Unattached, non-identified, free of tādātmya! What is the meaning of unattached here? Enter a little into attachment and it will be clear. I have heard: a house caught fire. Naturally, the master of the house beat his chest and wept. A crowd gathered. They tried to extinguish the fire; it would not go out. His eyes were full of tears; he had lost his senses.
