Stop rushing; sit quietly with a strong heart-longing, ask for nothing, and patiently wait.

Osho, for the quickest possible transformation of life-energy, which meditation method would be useful? What is the utility of sun-gazing (surya-trataka) for awakening the inner yogic fire?
That evening, while returning from a stroll in a garden, a Muslim gentleman was walking ahead of him, ambling very peacefully. A servant came running and said to the Muslim, “Mir Sahib, your house is on fire!” But Mir Sahib’s steps did not change. The gait remained the same; the cane swung the same way; the pace was unchanged—as if nothing had happened. The servant thought perhaps he hadn’t understood or heard. He said again, “Did you hear?” The servant was frantic—drenched in sweat, panting, agitated. It was someone else’s property burning. He was merely a servant; nothing of his was being lost. The one whose property was burning walked tranquilly. The servant repeated, “The house is on fire. Do you understand? What are you lost in? Run! Everything is turning to ash!” The Muslim said to his servant, “Fool! Should I abandon the gait of a lifetime because an…Read the full discourse →
Osho, in your presence there is a taste of the depth of meditation, but that state does not remain permanent. Please guide us toward making it permanent!
If delay is your way, no harm; we will cultivate the habit of patience—what else! If you tarry, fine. However long you can delay, we will learn to wait longer still. We too will cultivate the habit of acceptance— Your aloofness may be your habit; so be it. Do not fall into haste. Haste breeds tension. It is haste that makes the mind restless. Walk with patience. Infinite time is available. There is no hurry anywhere. Time’s stream is endless—no near shore, no far shore; no beginning, no end. In this eternal, you are worrying needlessly. Why all this running about? Your running will not make anything come sooner. There is no need to hurry. Look at the trees—how languid they are. Look at the moon and stars—how silently they move. Do you see any hurry in existence to reach somewhere? Existence is so calm, as if it has already…Read the full discourse →
Osho, you said that if the prana—the vital energy—becomes utterly, totally eager for the Lord, union can happen in a single instant. And you also say that for this union infinite patience is required. These are two extremes!
No; they are two forms of the same state—two stages of the same state. Understand! I continually say that to attain him one needs infinite patience. And I also continually say that he can be attained in a single moment. The two statements appear contradictory. For if he can be attained in a single moment, what need is there for infinite patience? Then there would be no need to be patient even for a moment—what can be attained in a moment, let us attain it now. And when I say that only by holding infinite patience will you attain, you feel that infinite patience must mean it cannot happen in a single moment; even if it happens in infinite lifetimes, that would still be early. They seem opposed, but they are not. The mathematics of life is like a riddle. They are complementary. Try to understand! He can be attained…Read the full discourse →
Osho, “A sigh needs a lifetime before it takes effect; who lives long enough for the tangles of your tresses to be set right? We agreed you would not feign indifference, but we shall turn to dust before the news even reaches you.”
“A sigh needs a lifetime before it takes effect; who lives until the tangles of your tresses are set right? We agreed you would not feign indifference, but we shall turn to dust before the news reaches you.” Become so! “We will wait for You our whole life long, yet the grief will remain that life is too short.” Do it! Let life prove too short and waiting grow vast. Let many lifetimes be encompassed; let waiting become so dense that birth and life pass like the blink of an eye. Yet let the thread of waiting continue unbroken. Bodies change, lives change, wombs change, forms change, colors change, names change—let everything go on changing—but within, let a single thread of waiting remain strung through all the beads. The happening can occur in this very moment, but the waiting must be endless. And the happening will be much delayed if…Read the full discourse →
Osho, in devotion the remembrance of the Name is greatly praised. In this context there is a popular couplet: “Keep chanting the name of Ram as long as there is breath in the body. Someday the Compassionate One will catch the hint in his ear.” Why doesn’t the Compassionate One listen quickly?
A mother is talking to her son. A new baby is due; nine months are complete. The mother is preparing the boy for the new guest in the house—this is necessary. The little boy… she tells him: You should be very happy. Your new brother is coming. From God’s house, your new brother is coming! But the child looks a little sad and a bit upset. The mother asks: What is it? Why are you upset and sad? Aren’t you happy that your new brother is coming? He says, No—because every day I pray to God that this time I should not get a brother. Send a little horse. It seems my prayer was not heard. Now no brother and such—I don’t want that. I want a horse. And he says to his mother, If it’s not too much trouble for you, then a horse… even now if something can…Read the full discourse →
