According to Osho, devotion (upasana) and spiritual discipline (sadhana) are two routes to the same summit: the ego must be dropped. Discipline advances by effort toward the self, only to surrender it at the end; devotion surrenders 'I' at the outset. Thus devotion is a shorter, more joyous path, though both ultimately arrive together.
Discipline tries hard first and lets go later; devotion lets go first—both reach the same place.
