Are prayer and devotion different?

Prayer is the worded approach to the Divine, while devotion is the wordless fulfillment; one matures into the other, for without prayer, there can be no true devotion.

— Osho
According to Osho, prayer and devotion are distinct yet inseparable phases of the same movement toward the Divine: prayer is the worded approach—the tuning of the instrument, the flower—while devotion is the wordless fulfillment—the fragrance, the silence. Prayer matures into devotion; without prayer, no devotion. Their boundaries interpenetrate: devotion is prayer that has gone silent in complete love and trust.

Prayer uses words to reach God, and when those words fade into deep, loving silence, that’s devotion.
