According to Osho, consciousness is not a thing like matter’s elements; it is the ground of aware am-ness revealed when thoughts and the egoic ‘I’ fall silent. Matter is object, insentient; consciousness is subjectless presence, center-less and all-pervading. This difference isn’t grasped by concepts but by experiencing no-mind, where individuality dissolves and being expands to the Whole.
When thoughts stop, you feel pure knowing without an “I”; a chair (matter) has no knowing—it’s just an object.
