According to Osho, during meditation the ego is not suppressed but ripened until it drops by itself. Like a balloon pushed to bursting or a fruit maturing on the tree, the ego may even swell at first—sometimes deliberately—so its falseness is seen and it pops. Then surrender happens naturally: an unripe, weak ego clings; a mature one collapses effortlessly into no-ego.
Meditation lets your sense of ‘me’ grow up and then pop, so you can simply be.
