What effect does parental meditation before conception and during pregnancy have on the child?

When conception occurs in a meditative union, the child is imbued with the essence of peace and joy, laying the foundation for a life of serenity and wisdom. A mother's meditation during pregnancy can nurture a being destined for awakening.

— Osho
According to Osho, when conception happens in a meditative, silent, love‑suffused union, the child receives its first taste of meditation—imprints of peace, joy, and egolessness. The mother’s ongoing meditation during pregnancy shapes ninety‑nine percent of the child, protecting it from anxiety and conflict and nurturing serenity and intelligence. Sustained nine months of meditative womb-life can even prepare the ground for a Buddha—an awakened, compassionate being.

If parents conceive in calm love and the mother stays peaceful and meditative while pregnant, the baby grows with inner peace and wisdom.

Osho, if parents meditate before conception and during pregnancy, what effect does it have on the child?

And if, for the full nine months, the mother carries the child in meditation—does nothing contrary to meditation, and does everything that supports meditation—then certainly, in these nine months, a Buddha can be born. These nine months are the formative moments of the child. And in these nine months let him have only the experience of love, of peace, of light. If in these nine months he has only one experience—the experience of his own inner power—then at birth he will not be an ordinary child; he will be extraordinary. We will have laid the foundation of his life, and the temple that rises on that foundation cannot be different from it. Therefore whenever parents come to me with complaints about their children, I have told them: you may feel hurt, but you are responsible. You must have laid the wrong foundation. Today your child is a bandit; today your…

Osho, what are the factors that make a womb worthy of the descent of a higher soul, or only of an inferior one? What preparations are needed so that a noble soul can enter the womb? How should they be done? And what particular characteristics did the wombs in which Buddha, Mahavira, Krishna, and Christ were born have, compared to ordinary wombs?

There are many yogic postures that create specific pressures, many breathing processes that do the same, and many sound intonations that apply particular pressures. All of these support the child’s talent, health, capacities, and possibilities to manifest fully. So far, man keeps discovering countless troublesome things, but what is truly needed—that man discover his own future—very little search is happening there. Yet all this is entirely possible. As soon as a child enters the mother, glimpses of that child’s possibilities begin to arise in the mother. It is a two-way process. If the mother becomes angry during these days, the child will be prone to anger; and if an angry soul has entered, a mother who never used to be angry will find anger arising. This too is very indicative, and seeing such indications experiments can be made to transform that child’s anger from the seed itself. Even today there…

Osho, you have called training a child’s intellect essential. But should training in meditation also be given simultaneously? Many sannyasins have families. What outlook should they have toward their children? Where should the emphasis be? Please shed light on this.

Jesus tells a very sweet parable—understand it. Jesus used to say, and because his whole emphasis was on love, the story is indicative. He said: A father had two sons. The father was very rich. One son was obedient; the other was rebellious. One increased the wealth; the other broke and wasted it. At last there was no way but to separate them. The father divided the wealth in halves. The elder stayed with the father, invested, bought fields, made orchards. The younger disappeared from the village as soon as he got his share. Soon news began to come that he had squandered everything in gambling, drank it away, lost it in the dances and songs of prostitutes—everything turned to dust. The father sent word: come back home. The younger, who had left, a gambler and drunkard, could not believe that after wasting everything his father could still call him…

What are the distinguishing features that make a womb worthy enough to receive a higher soul, and what are the characteristics of a womb in which an inferior soul may enter? What preparations are necessary in order that a higher soul may descend? How are the preparations made? As compared to ordinary wombs, how special were the wombs that carried great souls like buddha, mahavira, krishna, and jesus?

Ordinarily, babies are born in the darkness of night. And normally, people make love in dark chambers, sneakily, with a sense of fear and guilt. People look at sex as if it is some kind of sin, a crime which has to be done surreptitiously, without anyone knowing about it. Obviously, sex of this kind is bound to produce grave consequences. In order to make love, freedom, openness, purity are essential. At the time of lovemaking, even small things bring distinct results, such as the color on the walls, the light in the room, the fragrance. A whole science exists around it. If we could make use of the science of child-conception, a complete transformation of the human race could be brought about. Even little things make a difference. Currently, a scientist is carrying on a small experiment which will bring about a fundamental change. He has devised a small…

God S Got A Thing About You · Discourse 7

Just go and be loving and you will see: many many people are coming; new people, strangers who you would never have expected to be so friendly with you will become friendly. This life is very strange: when you want people to be with you, nobody would like to be with you; when you are able to be alone, people start coming to you. If you need people, people will avoid you, because need means you will suck them. When you don't need and you are perfectly happy being alone, enough unto yourself, you will suddenly wonder why people have started coming towards you. Because they will see that they can come and share something from you. So just be there, loving, happy, meditating, and soon you will see that people are coming and you will not be alone, never.
