What is suffering and what is its power that overwhelms everyone except for a few buddhas?

Suffering is the self-stupor of forgetting your own being; it loses its power the moment you awaken to your true self.

— Osho
According to Osho, suffering is self-stupor—forgetfulness of one’s own being. Its seeming power lies not in itself but in our unconsciousness, habit, and attachment: we mistake lesser suffering for ‘happiness’ and cling to familiar wounds. Buddhas are free because the lamp of self-knowledge is lit; with awareness, suffering dissolves instantly. Until then, it rides us, only by our consent.

Suffering is like being asleep to who you are; it feels strong only because you keep holding it, but if you wake up and see yourself clearly, it melts away.
