According to Osho, religion is an inquiry into the inquirer—the subjective exploration of consciousness—whereas science investigates outer objects and even brackets out the investigator. Because consciousness is not a thing that can be put on the table or proved like light to a blind man, its realizations must be expressed symbolically. Hence many religions arise: diverse languages, metaphors, and methods pointing to the same inner reality.
Religion means looking inside to find the one who is looking; since this can’t be shown like an object, people describe it in many different ways.
