According to Osho, evolution operates on two planes: bodies evolve automatically, but consciousness evolves through will. Even in animals and birds a faint volition participates in their ascent, while in humans evolution depends almost entirely on conscious choice. Thus, movement toward the human realm is not purely mechanical; it increasingly requires intentional participation, responsibility, and awareness, culminating in self-directed transformation exemplified by Buddhas and Mahaviras.
Evolution isn’t a conveyor belt; even animals choose a little, and by the time we’re human, our growth happens mostly when we choose it.
