Ask Osho!
Osho on Is it possible for everyone to hear the call of love?

Is it possible for everyone to hear the call of love?

Call out to love without expectation; even if one in a thousand hears, that is enough, for the essence lies in the calling itself.

— Osho
According to Osho, not everyone can hear the call of love right now; only those near awakening—often tempered by suffering—can truly listen, fewer will move, and fewer still arrive. Yet that's not the point: one must keep calling, louder if needed, without demanding results. If one in a thousand comes, it is enough; the work is to call, trust existence, and serve readiness.

Not everyone is ready to hear love, but keep sharing it anyway—the ready ones will hear and come.

Question: First question: Osho, how does the call of the Divine become audible? But first of all, in the beginning, we were joined only to Him—before all seasons. And even now we are joined to Him. We may have become flowers, may have become leaves—but our roots are still sunk in His soil. Our life we receive from Him. However big a tree may become, it is part of the earth, an extension of the earth. Wherever we may roam, we are His very hands. The day we awaken, we will be amazed to find that the relationship had never broken, could not break; only in between there was forgetfulness. As if sleep had come and we had seen a dream. Because of the dream, what truly was got forgotten, and what was not seemed to be ours.

Osho, how can one love or be devoted to the Supreme Reality which we do not even know? Is love for the unknown possible?

And you want high position—why? So that you are not below anyone; that brings shame. You do not want to be behind anyone; being behind hurts the mind. You want to reach a place above which there is no other place: become president or prime minister—reach a place beyond which there is nowhere to go; then you can rest. No more pushing, no more being pushed; the last halt, the destination. But it never comes. You reach Delhi—but not the destination. Still, the search is for God. Devotees have called God param-pada—the Supreme Station; and param-dhan—the Supreme Wealth. Why? Because on finding God, all cravings are emptied. On finding God, the running ceases; now there is nowhere else to go. Rest has come; home has come; the destination has come. Now there is only to dive—plunge into this nectar; drown in it. Now the moments of delight arrive—lila begins. No…

In this connection, Sumitra has asked: Osho, you say that wherever a Buddha lives, even the dried-up trees around him become lush and green. But why are the people of Poona withering? When, thousands of miles away in Kathmandu, people merely hearing your voice cannot restrain themselves and joyfully ask, “Will Osho not come here?”—I can only say, “Osho is here.” Even so, their hearts are not satisfied. At the Ashish Osho Meditation Center, every day not only new leaves but new flowers are blooming. Why is this happening? Kindly shed light on it.

Those from Jabalpur who never came to meet me there now come here to meet me. They come here and write: “We’re from Jabalpur—so you must meet us.” I ask them, “Where were you in Jabalpur? I was there for twenty years; you never came to meet me, I never saw you, I don’t know you. Today you come here laying claim!” They write, “We are from Jabalpur—so we should get a special chance to meet.” Such is this strange world! … So, Sumitra, the people of Kathmandu are fortunate. They are far—so longing arises in their hearts; love is stirred; they feel like rushing here. Sumitra rushes here. She is old; age has come. Yet she runs. Bearing all hardships, she comes here from Kathmandu; for that reason a natural question arises: you say that where the Buddha is, even dry trees turn lush and green. What I said…

Maha Geeta · Discourse 36

Question: First question: Osho, can Truth be attained through love? And one more criterion will help on the touchstone: whenever you find a path beginning to fit you, you will bloom at once; peace will descend at once—as if the notes suddenly harmonize, you have found your ground, your season has come—your time to fruit and flower. Sometimes it happens that, just hearing someone’s words, at once something like a click happens within—the doors open. Sometimes, seeing someone, suddenly love wells up. Sometimes, coming near someone, suddenly a deep peace surrounds you, fountains of joy begin to flow. This does not happen without cause. Wherever your resonance matches, wherever your wavelength aligns—there it happens. Here, as I speak, it is plainly visible—who is stirred, who is not. Some sit like stones; some begin to sway. Some hearts are touched; some remain entangled in the head.

Osho, did the heart say anything? Nothing at all. Did the heart hear anything? Nothing at all. Do conversations happen like this? They happen exactly like this!

That is why people have become frightened of love. They talk of love; they do not love. Talking can be done from the skull. But to do—to love—you have to enter life’s trackless forest. There are dangers upon dangers. People hear about love, they understand, they sing songs, they read stories—but they do not love. Because to love means to efface yourself. Only when the ego is lost does the sprouting of love happen. And one who has not known love—the unfortunate one who has not known love—how will he know prayer? Prayer is the culmination of love. It is love’s final distillation, its ultimate essence. “Did the heart say anything? Nothing at all. Did the heart hear anything? Nothing at all. Do conversations happen like this? This is exactly how they happen!” Within, such waves keep arising. There the distance between yes and no is not. There yes is…
