Blessing is for everyone. But it is not that just because I give it you will receive it; you will receive it only if you take it. The river is flowing—flowing for all. Trees will drink, animals and birds will drink, humans will drink. But only the one who drinks will be quenched. If you stand stiff on the bank, the river will not jump into your cupped hands. Which eyes can discern? Which eyes can see? Eyes in which the webs of thought are no more. Eyes in which the mounds of ego are no more. Eyes in which the sense of “I” has ended—those eyes become discerning. Then they see jewels everywhere. Then God is not far—He is near. The Upanishads say: God is farther than the farthest, and nearer than the nearest. It sounds paradoxical. Mathematics and logic will protest: if He is far, He is far; if He is near, He is near. What kind of statement is this—that He is farther than the farthest and nearer than the nearest! Yet the statement is true. Let logic and mathematics say what they will—here they have no reach. … कौन सी आंखें देख सकती हैं? जिन आंखों में विचारों के जाल नहीं रहे। जिन आंखों में अहंकार के अंबार नहीं रहे। जिन आंखों में मैं-भाव समाप्त हो गया है। वे पारखी हो जाती हैं। उन्हें फिर हीरे ही हीरे दिखाई पड़ते हैं। फिर परमात्मा दूर नहीं है, पास है। उपनिषद कहते हैं: परमात्मा दूर से भी दूर और पास से भी पास। विरोधाभास मालूम होता है। गणित तो कहेगा, तर्क तो कहेगा, दूर है तो दूर और पास है तो पास। यह कैसा वक्तव्य हुआ कि दूर से भी दूर और पास से भी पास! लेकिन यह वक्तव्य सही है। गणित लाख कहे, तर्क लाख कहे, यहां तर्क और गणित की कोई गति नहीं है। परमात्मा दूर से भी दूर है, अगर तुम्हारी आंखों में अहंकार की धूल है। और परमात्मा पास से भी पास है, अगर तुम्हारी आंखें अहंकार से मुक्त हैं।

If you have given the pain, then you alone give the remedy— let it not become a tale for the world to tell. All right. There is nothing to be alarmed about. Pain itself becomes the medicine! In pain’s incompleteness there is suffering; in its completeness, there is the cure. Understand this a little. It will be hard to grasp, because none of our logical categories will be of use. But among the precious truths of the inner life there is this: if your question becomes total, the answer arises from within the question itself. And if your thirst becomes whole, springs burst forth within the thirst itself and fulfillment comes.
