According to Osho, attachment persists because it secretly delivers pleasure—the ego’s relish in winning, being right, feeling superior, or hoping for sweetness from those close to us. Pain and pleasure are two wings of the same attachment. We cling for the occasional high, so the hurt continues. When the hope of pleasure ends, attachment—and its pain—drops.
We keep holding on to what hurts because it sometimes feels good, and we keep hoping for that good feeling again.
