According to Osho, consciousness (the witness) is beyond the brain, which only supplies a ‘window’ to outer reality; even in sleep, a tiny “guard” stays on to alert you in emergencies. In this view, what neuroscience calls the reticular formation/activating system is the brain’s wakefulness gate—keeping the window ajar, modulating arousal, and allowing the witness to look out or withdraw.
Your deepest awareness watches through the brain, and a small always-on switch (like the reticular formation) keeps a light on so you can wake up if needed.
