When you drop the ego and become inwardly empty, the master, or existence itself, can play through you like a flute; then beauty, intelligence, and love flow that are not "yours," but of the whole. Question: Osho, One day Seihei’s disciple Suibi asked his master, “Master, what is the fundamental secret of Dharma?” The Master said, “Wait. And when there is no one here except the two of us, then I will tell you.” Many times that day there were moments when only the two of them were in the hut, and each time Suibi repeated his question—but before he could even finish, Seihei would place a finger on his lips, signaling silence. Evening came, and the Master’s hut was completely empty. The disciple wanted to ask again, but once more the finger on the lips came as the answer. Night descended, and the full moon rose high in the sky. Suibi said, “Now how much longer must I wait?” Then Seihei took him outside the hut and whispered in his ear, “These bamboo trees here are tall, and these bamboo trees here are short.
The venerable master said:
WHEN HE HAS CLEARLY THOUGHT ABOUT THESE THREE HE PERCEIVES ONLY A VOID, BUT WHEN HE CONTEMPLATES THE VOID, HE REALIZES THAT THE VOID IS ALSO VOID AND HAS BECOME A NOTHINGNESS. THE VOID HAVING VANISHED INTO NOTHINGNESS, HE REALIZES THAT THE NOTHINGNESS OF NOTHING IS ALSO NOTHING, AND WHEN THE NETHERMOST NOTHINGNESS IS REACHED, THERE IS MOST TRULY TO BE FOUND A DEEP AND UNCHANGING STILLNESS. Beloved master, you said that for buddha freedom is the highest. But his "dhamma" means "the law," which inhibits freedom. How do freedom and law go together? Please comment.
Buddha is saying freedom is the only real law and anything that hinders your freedom is against the law of life. Be free. All those laws have to be broken, sabotaged. You have to take your life in your own hands and you are responsible for it. No fate is responsible, no destiny is responsible. You have to create yourself by your own effort. You are just a tabula rasa. You can write beautiful poems on it, beautiful calligraphy, you can do beautiful paintings on it; or you can leave it as it is. Or you can simply throw colors on it, meaninglessly, in an insane way, like a small child. You can destroy the whole thing.
