Ask Osho!
Osho on Is it true that truth cannot be hidden and reveals itself in one way or another?

Is it true that truth cannot be hidden and reveals itself in one way or another?

Truth is like light; it cannot be hidden and will always reveal itself, while lies are but shadows that ultimately collapse under the weight of their own deception.

— Osho
According to Osho, truth cannot be hidden; it is like light that shines even in darkness. Lies lack legs and survive only by borrowing truth’s, so they inevitably collapse and expose themselves. Truth is simple, needs no memory or protection, and carries a natural fragrance; living truthfully frees one from entanglement and restless accounting.

Truth shines on its own like a light, while lies soon trip and fall, so being honest keeps life simple.

Osho, is it true that truth cannot be hidden? It reveals itself in one way or another.

Sharananand! It is true that truth cannot be hidden. Truth is like light—how will you hide it? Even in the darkest darkness it will show itself. There is no way to conceal truth. We do try to hide it, but all our devices prove futile. Still we go on trying, hoping that perhaps this time we might succeed. All our lies are caught—sooner or later. It may take a little while, but they are all found out. Yet man keeps thinking, “Maybe this time I won’t be caught.” A lie has no legs; it cannot walk. And when it does walk, it walks by borrowing the legs of truth—remember that. That is why every liar has to prove that what he is saying is the truth. He has to shout and shout to establish that it is true. He is borrowing legs from truth. A lie cannot move by itself;…

Osho, what is the definition of God?

Words are very small. If you say God is light, then what of darkness? The scriptures have said that God is light. Suppose we accept this as a definition—then what about darkness? Where will darkness go? Darkness is too; in fact it is far more than light. Light sometimes is and sometimes is not; darkness is always, eternal. Where will you place darkness? If you say God is light, darkness is left out. If you say God is darkness, then light is left out. If you say God is both darkness and light, a contradiction arises: they cannot be together. Try to have both darkness and light in the same room. If you bring in light, darkness disappears; if you preserve darkness, you cannot have light. Then how can both be together? That becomes an impossibility. So you cannot say “both” either. Then the fourth device is to say: it…

Osho, what is the proof of God’s existence?

And you still ask for proof? There have been people who offered proofs, and all their proofs are futile. No proof works. All the proofs for God so far are not worth a penny. Someone says: everything that is made must have a maker; such a vast world—surely it must have a maker. But that proof commits suicide; the moment it meets an atheist, it goes lame. The atheist says: If every made thing must have a maker, if God is needed to make the world, then who made God? With that he tightens the noose around your neck. Who made God? You protest: No, no one made God. Then the atheist says: If God can be without being made, why can’t the world be without being made? The argument collapses; it falls flat. You say: just as the potter makes the pot, so that Great Potter made this world.…

After bankei had passed away, a blind man who lived near the master's temple said to a friend: 'since I am blind I cannot watch a person's face, so I must judge his character by the sound of his voice.

ORDINARILY WHEN I HEAR SOMEONE CONGRATULATE ANOTHER UPON HIS HAPPINESS OR SUCCESS, I ALSO HEAR A SECRET TONE OF ENVY. WHEN CONDOLENCE IS EXPRESSED FOR THE MISFORTUNE OF ANOTHER, I HEAR PLEASURE AND SATISFACTION, AS IF THE ONE CONDOLING WAS REALLY GLAD THERE WAS SOMETHING LEFT TO GAIN IN HIS OWN WORLD. 'IN ALL MY EXPERIENCE HOWEVER, BANKEI'S VOICE WAS ALWAYS SINCERE. WHENEVER HE EXPRESSED HAPPINESS, I HEARD NOTHING BUT HAPPINESS, AND WHENEVER HE EXPRESSED SORROW, SORROW WAS ALL I HEARD.' MAN IS SPLIT. Schizophrenia is a normal condition of man -- at least now. It may not have been so in the primitive world, but centuries of conditioning, civilization, culture and religion have made man a crowd -- divided, split, contradictory. One part goes one way, the other part goes in just the diametrically opposite way and it is almost impossible to keep oneself together. It is a miracle…

Beloved Osho, sometimes while just sitting, the question comes up in the mind: what is truth? But by the time I come here I realize that I am not capable to ask. But may I ask what happens in those moments when the question arises so strongly that had you been nearby I would have asked it. Or if you had not replied, I would have caught hold of your beard or collar and asked, "what is truth, Osho?"

When you fall in love with a woman there is some truth -- if you have fallen absolutely unaware, if you have not 'done' it in any way, if you have not acted, managed, if you have not even thought about it. Suddenly you see a woman, you look into her eyes, she looks into your eyes, and something clicks. You are not the doer of it, you are simply possessed by it, you simply fall into it. It has nothing to do with you. Your ego is not involved, at least not in the very, very beginning, when love is virgin. In that moment there is truth, but there is no interpretation. That's why love remains indefinable. Soon the mind comes in, starts managing things, takes possession of you. You start thinking about the girl as your girlfriend, you start thinking of how to get married, you start thinking…
