Is there a sleep chakra too?

Each chakra has a sleep part, except the last -- the SAHASRAR. At the seventh chakra, awareness is total: it is pure awareness. That's why Krishna says in the Gita: The yogi never sleeps. "The yogi" means one who has come to the last center of his being, to the ultimate flowering; one who has become a lotus. He never sleeps. His body sleeps, his mind sleeps: he never sleeps. Even when a Buddha is sleeping, deep in the innermost core of his being a light goes on burning bright. The seventh chakra has no sleep part to it, otherwise all the six chakras have both: yin, yang. So it is centered on different chakras. The bliss of the soul that becomes available is concentrated differently on different chakras.

And when you pass through all seven centers—seven centers. Understand that the sex center is number two; it is not number one. Sex is center number two. From there you can also descend to center number one; if you go below it, you fall into coma, into unconsciousness. Below that, there is no consciousness. Plants live there, stones live there, animals and birds live there. They live at the center one below the sex center. They sometimes come up to sex, but then they fall back to their own center below. That is why sex in animals and birds is periodic; in man it is not periodic. The only reason is this: pushed by seasons and nature, they somehow manage to reach up to sex; when their work is done, they fall back to the lower center. All humanity is miserly. The cause of miserliness is the feeling: it will be used up. What you have is so little that you are afraid. You try to save it. And there is a very complex thing here: the more you try to save, the more the process of your six chakras slows. For when there is no need—when you share, need is created. When need is created, the chakras turn, drawing more energy. When there is no need, the wheels become still, they rust; they cease to move. The miser becomes weak. None is weaker than a miser. The greedy becomes weak. The giver expands. The greedy shrivels. It is like a well: if you draw water daily, there are springs beneath; from those springs new water keeps coming. New streams open up. You keep drawing; the well keeps filling. Its bottom remains the same.

Osho, do the chakras accompany the subtle body or not?

Chakras? Yes. If we understand closely, chakras are the fields of contact between the subtle body and this gross body. Wherever your gross body and that subtle body touch, those points are chakras. So they are the same in everyone; there is no difference— in all creatures, in everyone. Wherever the body is touched—even in a cow—there a chakra will form. And those touching sites are fixed. For example, understand that at the sex center there will be a chakra. Whether the being is of any species—a dog, a cat, a man, a woman—it makes no difference; there will be a very forceful chakra at the sex center.
