What should we do at home during night meditation?

Trust the inner vision to deepen your meditation, for the true master resides within you, beyond any external props.

— Osho
According to Osho, for your night meditation at home, simply sit and close your eyes; allow the master's presence to arise within. If you need initial support, you may keep a picture, but only for a few days—then drop it. The real work is inward: trust the inner vision to deepen without external props.

Close your eyes, feel your teacher inside, and only use a photo for a short while if it helps.

God Is Not For Sale · Discourse 15
1976-10-26 · Chuang Tzu Auditorium · English
Within three, four minutes you will feel that the body has relaxed; the breathing has come into a rhythm. Then with each outgoing breath, simply say, 'Osho' inside; not very loudly -- just a whisper, but inside so that you can hear it. When the breath comes in, just wait. When the breath goes out, you call, and when the breath comes out, allow me to come in. Don't do anything -- simply wait; so your work is only when the breath goes out. When the breath goes out, go into the universe. The outgoing breath is almost like dropping a bucket into a well. And when the breath comes in, it is like the bucket being pulled out of the well. This is only for twenty minutes. So four, five minutes to get into it, and then twenty minutes to remain in it.

Dhyan Darshan · Discourse 4
1970-12-22 · Bombay · Hindi · English translation

Do we have to take off our glasses? If we do it standing, we will take them off.

Do not talk; quickly move aside. And those who are seated, please check that there is a little space around you, so that if you sway and move you don’t bump into anyone. And at the back, even if someone does get bumped, don’t worry about it—keep your moving and swaying going. Friends who are standing just to watch will not speak for forty minutes; even that much restraint will be a great discipline, and they will gain a little from it. Just keep watching. So shall I take it that you have chosen your places? Stand a little off to the side; those who are sitting there will be inconvenienced. Those who are standing, step a bit away. Those who are sitting, separate a little so you don’t get in between. Because if someone who is standing falls, or something happens, you will be hurt. Leave a little space.…

Jo Ghar Bare Aapna · Discourse 5
1970-08-29 · Hindi · English translation

A friend has asked: Osho, during the stages of meditation, it often looks as though the movements are like those seen when exorcists drive out spirits.

Do not remain in the delusion that you have no ghosts and spirits within. That they haven’t yet been shaken out—this may be. That the time for shaking them out has not yet come—this may be. But we all have our own ghosts. And within all of us are states that should be released. If you don’t bring them out yourself, then some other “ghost” has to enter you and force them out. There’s no real difference. Certainly, what happens in a state of possession is almost the same as what happens in meditation. But there is a difference. From the outside the processes may look similar; inside there is a very fundamental difference. A person afflicted by possession is out of control, under another’s power; whatever happens within him is as if someone else is making it happen. In your case, whatever is happening, you are doing it; no…

The Inner Journey · Discourse 3
1968-02-03 · Ajol Meditation Camp · English
We should understand two or three things regarding the night meditation, then we will sit for it.... Would it be possible to lie down? Is there space enough for the meditators to lie down? First understand, then we will do the night meditation. The morning meditation is to be done sitting. Life arises, wakes up in the morning, so it is helpful to meditate sitting up. The night meditation has to be done lying in bed, before you go to sleep. After the meditation, just go to sleep silently. This is the last thing in the day. The morning meditation is the first thing that happens after waking up; the night meditation is the last thing that happens before going to sleep. If one enters a state of meditation properly before sleeping, one's whole sleep is transformed. One's whole sleep can become a meditation, because sleep has certain rules.

Karuna Aur Kranti · Discourse 2
1969-11-25 · Bombay · Hindi · English translation

(Osho sits in silence for a few minutes, then begins to offer suggestions.)

The mind has become quiet and empty... everything has been erased... the mind is utterly empty... the mind has become empty... keep watching, keep knowing—the mind has become empty... the mind is utterly empty... the mind is utterly empty... Remain a witness; keep watching, keep knowing, keep experiencing—the river has carried it away, the funeral pyre has burned it—now, silently, there is knowing... knowing. In this very emptiness, at some moment, that enters which is called bliss. That enters which is called truth. That enters which is called the Divine (Paramatma). Everything has become empty... everything has become empty... the doors stand open, in waiting—everything has become empty. Now slowly take a few deep breaths... slowly take deep breaths... with each breath you will feel great freshness, great peace, great joy. Slowly take a few deep breaths... slowly take a few deep breaths... with each breath you will feel great…
