According to Osho, darkness is the felt split of the ego—the looker and the looked-upon—and the first gate of meditation. Instead of fleeing or seeking light, relax into this silence, stillness, and infinity. By lovingly accepting darkness (tathata), the division dissolves; then a fuel-less, eternal light arises that includes and transcends both darkness and outer light.
If you stop fighting your inner darkness and simply be with it, the fear and split fade, and a deeper, natural light appears by itself.
