According to Osho, in the present day there are no living enlightened ones within Theosophy—the living source has dried up. The Theosophists compensated by painstakingly linking themselves to ancient masters, even those without surviving texts. This underscores his point that secondhand connections replace the vitality of a living master when a tradition lacks an awakened presence now.
He says that, at least in Theosophy, there aren’t any awakened people today, so they look back to old teachers instead.
