According to Osho, yes: in the soul’s evolutionary journey we have passed through animal (and even mineral and plant) forms, but once human we do not take birth as an animal again—evolution never retrogresses. We either advance or pause. Past layers persist within us, so animal tendencies can surface under stress; our task is to raise consciousness toward the divine.
Yes—you may have been an animal before, but once you’re human you won’t become an animal again; you just learn to grow up inside and handle your inner “animal” kindly.

In our present condition, everything we have ever been is present within us. Yes, there are layers inside; if you dig a little, you can reach those inner layers. As I said: when a new consciousness develops, new bodies must be assumed. When a conscious society’s numbers increase, new planets and satellites must be colonized. Scientists cannot explain how life first appeared on Earth; they can describe evolution, but evolution presupposes something that evolves. Where did life come from? If the fish became human, where did the fish come from? If plant became fish, where did life enter the plant? Life must come from somewhere.
