Are the teachings merely an excuse to prepare us for a special transmission?

The teachings are not an excuse; they are a device to dissolve your conditioning and awaken your original self. When thought and talk cease, your inner flame ignites, revealing the transmission that has always been within you.

— Osho
According to Osho, the teachings aren’t an excuse but a device to dissolve social conditioning and awaken your ‘original man.’ You are ready now; only courage and openness are needed. When talking and thinking stop, a natural transmission—your own inner flame—arises instantly. He is not superior; transmission happens the moment you open the door through silence and meditation.

The treasure is already inside you; be brave, get quiet, and open the door, and it shines by itself—no waiting, no special tricks.

The Original Man · Discourse 4Question 2 1988-08-19 Gautam the Buddha Auditorium English
Question: Anando has asked: OUR BELOVED MASTER, DOKAI SAYS IT IS ALL DREAM TALK. ARE YOUR WORDS THEN JUST AN EXCUSE TO LULL US INTO A SPACE WHERE HOPEFULLY, SOME DAY, WE MAY BE READY FOR THE SPECIAL TRANSMISSION? You are ready for the special transmission right now, Anando. It just needs courage to accept it. The society has condemned you so deeply, the condemnation has gone so deep in you that you never think you are worthy of anything. And to be "worthy" of being the original man is not a question of worth, it is not a question of deserving. You are. Even if you deny it, still you are. Even if you try to escape somewhere else, it will be within you. So, Anando, Dokai is right when he says all is talk. You just stop talking, stop thinking -- and the original man is there.

Osho, what is your fundamental teaching to your sannyasins?

Truth is a transmission beyond words. Words move from one mind to the other mind. What I am saying to you is from one mind to another mind. What is not said is far more important. Listen to my silences the pauses in between. Listen to the gaps. When you are in tune with me, in deep harmony with me, when there is no fight going on between you and me -- no resistance, no conflict no argument... And there is no need of any argument because I am not trying to convince you of anything, I am not trying to persuade you to become followers, to become imitators. My effort is totally different: it is that of communion, not of communication. When two hearts are beating together in rhythm, in a kind of synchronicity, when they are dancing together hand in hand, in a deep loving embrace, then something…
The Great Zen Master Ta Hui · Discourse 31Question 1 1987-08-17 Chuang Tzu Auditorium English
Question: BELOVED OSHO, RELEASE IN OUR FAMILY THERE IS INDEED A SUBTLE MARVEL NOT TRANSMITTED. IT WOULDN'T HELP EVEN IF THE SKY BECAME MY MOUTH, AND GRASS, TREES, PEBBLES, AND STONES ALL EMITTED LIGHT TO HELP ME EXPOUND THE TRUTH. THUS WE BELIEVE THAT THIS THING CANNOT BE TRANSMITTED AND CANNOT BE STUDIED: IT REQUIRES ONE'S OWN REALIZATION AND ENLIGHTENMENT. BE SURE TO REMEMBER THE WORDS OF THE PREVIOUS DAY: "IN PRINCIPLE, IT'S SUDDEN ENLIGHTENMENT -- TAKING ADVANTAGE OF ENLIGHTENMENT TO CLEAR EVERYTHING AWAY. IN THE EVENT, PHENOMENA ARE NOT SUDDENLY REMOVED BUT EXHAUSTED GRADUALLY." WHETHER YOU'RE WALKING, STANDING, SITTING, OR LYING DOWN, YOU MUST NOT FORGET! YOU DON'T HAVE TO SEEK SPECIAL EXCELLENCE OR EXTRAORDINARY WONDERS BESIDES. MASTER SHUI LAO ASKED MA TSU, "WHAT IS THE TRUE MEANING OF THE COMING FROM THE WEST?

Osho, after listening to the discourse on “Nahin Ram Bin Thav,” we were reminded of your proclamation voiced at the Anandshila camp: “I have not come to teach but to awaken. Surrender, and I will transform you—this is my promise.” Please explain this supreme assurance to us in detail. Also tell us: what is the difference between learning and awakening? And what is the relationship between surrender and transformation?

Through the boy, Rasputin had the royal family in his grip. If he left town for a day, they were in trouble. He also declared, “The day I die, within a short time the Tsar’s power will end.” He said it to ensure protection—and the Tsar protected him as best he could. Within a year and a half of Rasputin’s murder, the three‑hundred‑year‑old empire collapsed. In the outer history of the 1917 revolution, Lenin is central; in the inner, psychological history, Rasputin is key. Because of him, a revolution could happen—though such inner causes don’t show on the surface. If you cultivate concentration under a tree, power will arise. All forms of power feed the ego. Therefore concentrated renunciates are almost always very egoistic—their gait, their posture, their speech—all bear the shadow of ego. And for the ego‑filled, what relation can there be with the Divine? Impossible. Meditation is the…
I Am That · Discourse 10Question 2 1980-10-20 Buddha Hall English

Osho, you have spoken many times about zen masters, and today you said that j. Krishnamurti is zen and zen means no teaching. Can you explain this point?

The disciple accepts the Master so that he can come closer to him. In saying yes to the Master he becomes attuned to the Master. The word "attunement" is beautiful; it means "at-onement". He becomes one with the Master. In that oneness something that cannot be given through words is transpired through the being -- something like bringing an unlit candle close to a lit candle. There is a certain point when the unlit candle comes within that limit -- suddenly the flame from the lit candle jumps into the unlit candle. The lit candle loses nothing at all, but the unlit candle gains infinitely. Now the reverse process is happening: when the disciple comes to the Master he gives his ego and thinks he is losing much -- and the Master gets nothing. When the Master gives something he gives infinitely, he gives his light. but he loses nothing;…
