Universal Consciousness

Beloved Osho, when we dissolve into the universal consciousness, and yet retain our individuality, will we still be able to recognize our friends? Will I be able to recognize you? There are some people I just don't want to let go of.

Prem Arup, the people that you just don't want to let go of you will not be able to find because they also need freedom. In the universal consciousness you can meet only out of freedom, out of pure love. The very idea of not letting them go is anti-freedom. You want to keep the possession in your hands even in the universal consciousness, when individualities have dissolved. Those will be the first people to disappear. They will slip out of your grip. As far as I am concerned, there is no problem. You will be able to recognize me, because between me and you there is no question of possessiveness. The more nonpossessive a friendship you have, the greater the possibility to feel and recognize the essential core of the individual, because all outer forms will have disappeared, will be gone; only the essential core will be there, unembodied.…

Question: First question: Osho, you said—‘Satsang, wake up! Dawn is near; stretch out your hands and catch it! The faltering death-night is ending, the night of the vulture is over. The horizon has split, a new life is glimpsed—morning is upon us. A fresh sheen to life, a new style, a new way! The moment to remember the Divine—Satsang—has come close. What kind of love is this—that friends went far away! What kind of awakening is this—that people began to hate! And those of whom you say, “One’s own have become strangers…” Who is truly “one’s own” here? It’s all bargaining, all bookkeeping. What you call so-called love is also barter and account.

Love is love -- have you ever heard about Hindu love? Mohammedan love? Consciousness is consciousness -- have you ever thought about Indian consciousness or Chinese consciousness? Enlightenment is enlightenment: whether it happens in the white body or in the black body, whether it happens in the young man or in the old man, whether it happens in a man or in a woman, it does not make any difference. Osho, can two souls not become acquainted—recognize one another?

As far as acquaintance is concerned, even two spirits, if they wish to become acquainted, can do so only by entering two persons. They cannot meet directly. It is almost like twenty people sleeping together in this room: we are here all night, yet in sleep we cannot become acquainted. Our acquaintance belongs only to wakefulness. When we wake up it can continue, but in sleep we cannot be acquainted; there is no relationship at all. Yes, it can happen that one person wakes up—then he can see everyone. This means that if one soul enters someone’s body, that soul can see all these souls—yet those souls will not see it. And if a soul enters a body, it can know something about other souls that are bodiless; but those souls will not be able to know anything about it.
