Osho on Waste

Waste

In the spirit of Osho's teachings, energy is squandered when our actions lead us back to the same starting point, revealing that without awareness and purpose, our efforts become mere cycles, preventing any true transformation and leaving us trapped in repetitive journeys.

God S Got A Thing About You · Discourse 25Para 15 1978-09-25 Chuang Tzu Auditorium English
And you will be surprised that thousands of things simply become impossible -- you cannot do them, because they are foolish. Not that they are going to take you to hell or you will be punished on the last day of judgment -- all that nonsense... nothing. The punishment is immediate. God cannot wait that long! The moment you dissipate energy you become miserable; the result is immediate. It is not going to wait for the last judgment. It happens this very moment, instantly. And so it is with reward: whenever you do something nourishing, health-giving, that brings well-being to you, you are rewarded. So this is a valid criterion, an existential criterion. Always keep it in mind.

Osho, you have said that if any action is total, energy is not lost. Please explain what you mean by total action. And also, in the process of sexual intercourse, what does it mean to be total or complete? Does it mean there is no loss of energy?

And here is the delightful paradox: if one becomes total in action, anger gradually becomes impossible—because total anger burns you up, it scorches you. Hatred becomes difficult—because complete hatred becomes poison; blisters rise in every pore. Enmity becomes difficult—because enmity then appears as self-destruction, as driving a dagger into one’s own chest. We can be angry only so long as we act incompletely. We can be enemies only so long as our acts are not total. The day our acts are complete, that day only the flower of love can bloom in our life. The day our act is complete, prayer becomes the very longing of our being. The day each act of our life becomes whole, that day God alone remains the one truth for us. When oneness arises within, oneness is seen without. As long as there are two within, there are two without. Not even two—there are…

You have said that much energy is needed to achieve the inner alchemy. Would you talk to us about energy: how can we build it up, and how can we retain it? In what ways do we lose it, and can we gain it from outside sources?

So every boy thinks that he is the exception, that only he is going through this. Soon he will start feeling dizzy; soon he will start feeling that intelligence is waning; soon he will start feeling that he is going crazy, that his life is wasted. Many people go on writing letters to me saying that their lives are wasted because they have lost so much semen, they have lost so much sex energy. That idea is very dangerous, and if an idea is there, the thing will happen. It happens through hypnosis. Any idea can become a help or a hindrance. It is difficult to live in the no-idea. So before you can reach to a mind which is thoughtless -- when everything becomes available spontaneously -- before that, it is better to have this idea in the mind: that you are part of an infinite energy and by…

Osho, when in Kundalini or Active Meditation energy is awakened, why is it then finished off by dancing?

Now you’ve come here—by mistake you’ve come. You’ve come to the wrong place. Here I teach pouring out. Here I teach sharing. Here I want to teach you the joy of spending. And you ask: “When in Kundalini or Active Meditation energy is awakened, why is it then finished off by dancing?” Dancing does not finish energy. Dancing refines energy. Dancing shares energy. And the more it is shared, the more is generated within you. The more creative a person is, the more powerful he is. If you have sung one song, you will become capable of singing a second—and the second will be deeper than the first. Then you will be capable of a third, deeper still. As you go on singing, you will find new layers opening, new depths appearing, new dimensions being touched within you. But out of fear you hold back your very first song, lest…

"Energy is wasted when our actions lead us in circles, leaving us unchanged; true transformation requires awareness and direction."

It’s like walking all day in a circle—you’re tired but still at the starting line.
