Question: BELOVED OSHO, WE HAVE QUITE A FEW QUESTIONS ABOUT FEMALE ENERGY. SOME WOMEN SAY THAT SINCE THEY'VE MET YOU, ALTHOUGH THEIR PHYSICAL DESIRES CONTINUE, A MORTAL MAN IS NO LONGER SATISFYING ENOUGH FOR THEM. OTHER WOMEN SAY THAT SINCE THEY HAVE MET YOU THEY FEEL MORE LOVING. GURDJIEFF IS REPORTED TO HAVE SAID THAT A WOMAN CANNOT ATTAIN EXCEPT THROUGH A MAN. WOULD YOU TALK TO US ABOUT FEMALE ENERGY? But Buddha was in deep love. And it is difficult for a man to attain meditation when he is in love -- this is the problem. Very difficult, because when he is in love, whenever he sits silently, the other arises in the mind; his whole being starts moving around the other. That was the fear, that's why Buddha escaped.

Osho, you have titled this series of talks “Sahaj Yoga.” Do “sahaj” and “yoga” not seem mutually opposed?

Anand Maitreya! They don’t just seem opposed, they are opposed. But no ultimate truth of life can manifest without contradiction. Life is made of opposites—darkness and light, day and night, woman and man, negative electricity and positive electricity, birth and death. The very structure of life is woven of opposites. Hence the opposites are not only opposed; they are complementary to each other. If you have labored hard all day, you will be able to sleep deeply. Labor and rest are opposites, yet only the one who has worked can rest deeply—and the one who has not worked cannot. So the opposites are not only opposed, they complete each other. Whenever an incomplete woman and an incomplete man meet, both are weakened; afterward, both have less energy than before they met. In the meeting of a complete man and a complete woman the reverse happens: after they meet, both have more energy than before. Their own powers, dormant within, are awakened and activated by the nearness of the other. Previously too it was their own energy that spilled in the other’s presence; now it is their own energy that is stirred and revealed in the other’s presence. But the one who becomes skilled in this—who can fully awaken any day’s memory up to the age of five—will find that the memories begin to awaken completely. And you should test it. As today passes, note down some events and lock them up. After two years, try to recall today. Most of it will have been forgotten. Then remember—and after remembering, break the lock and compare whether what you recalled matches what you had written. You will be amazed—astonished—that besides what you wrote, many more details have come back which you did not even note at the time. They will all be there in memory.
