"My experience with the big love cafe during my stay at Chenrezig Institute was unfortunately difficult due to the use of dairy. Most of the time it was not immediately clear whether the food being served was dairy free and the volunteers did not have an easy way of checking with the chef. The volunteers were very friendly and accommodation in this matter, it is just unfortunate to have to endure such uncertainty and inconvenience for the use of dairy which is completely unnecessary in all regards especially in a buddhist cafe. The use and consumption of dairy that I witnessed throughout the grounds was discouraging and disheartening. My intention in writing this is not to judge anybodies actions or put anybody down, I write this review simply as a warning for any vegan visitors and as a hopeful plea to the Institute. The very real and ongoing suffering to living beings that is caused as a direct result of the use of dairy products is an issue that needs to be addressed within the institute. I would like to see Big love cafe show some big love toward our animal friends and stop creating demand for an industry that relies upon the exploitation and slavery of innocent beings. Take a moment to contemplate this fact. The people I encountered at Chenrezig Institute were very compassionate and loving people, this energy should be shared with all sentient beings. A buddhist institute should take these issues more seriously, I hope to see this issue addressed by the institute. The path to enlightenment requires true commitment and compassion, we are not separate from nature. If you are on the path I encourage you to think deeply about these concepts, and reconsider your use of animal products for the benefit of all. May no beings suffer. May no beings suffer."

"I was shocked by the state of the "Big Love Café" Vermin droppings were scattered in the seating area, and I saw what appeared to be a rat moving in the kitchen where food is prepared. This is a serious hygiene and health risk. When I raised it with staff/volunteers, they showed no concern and did nothing about it. For your safety, I strongly advise avoiding this café until proper food safety and pest control measures are in place."
