According to Osho, God gives desires so consciousness can ripen; desire is the divine furnace that refines us like gold. The mistake is either to drown in the fire (addiction) or to flee it (repression). The third way is to live desires consciously, allowing their fire to burn away dross; then stepping out naturally is sannyas—the mature acceptance of the gift.
