Whether to an enlightened person, nature, or even a rock, total surrender dissolves the ego and reveals the Buddha everywhere. Practically, surrendering to a living non-ego is harder—your ego resists—so masters ask you to surrender to them only as a device; the transformation comes from surrender’s quality, not its target.
