According to Osho, the monks outwardly disobeyed Buddha - he forbade images and scriptures - but by acting from compassion they truly obeyed his essence. Buddha's core teaching is compassion; breaking such a command to aid future seekers preserves his living presence. Symbols and writings are provisional 'footprints' for our blindness; rightly used, they guide us toward direct seeing without becoming objects of clinging.
